COOPERSTOWN
Cooperstown, "The home of Baseball" is located at the junction of routes 28 and 80 at the south end of Otsego Lake, just three miles from Cooperstown Dreams Park.
Surrounded by magnificent wooded hills and situated on the lake's shores, today Cooperstown is a "village of museums," including the National Baseball Hall of Fame, the Farmers' Museum and the Fennimore House Museum, home to one of the country's premier folk art collections. Other cultural attractions include the Glimmerglass Opera, New York State Historical Association, and several small art galleries. The Leatherstocking Golf Course is also within a mile of downtown at the historic Otesaga Hotel.
Cooperstown's Main Street provides visitors with shopping in various boutiques, gift emporiums and family dining in a variety of restaurants. The town's Trolley System features four old-fashioned trolleys that carry visitors from remote parking lots to Main Street and the museums in town.
Accommodations in the Village provide parking, allowing guests to walk to the various Village attractions.
OTSEGO LAKE
Otsego Lake is the largest lake in the Cooperstown area with a surface area of 4,200 acres. Otsego is a cool clear lake with an average depth of 82 feet and is 165 feet at its deepest point. Otsego Lake is 9 miles long, bordered at its North end by the hamlet of Springfield Center and at its South end by the Village of Cooperstown.
Otsego Lake offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities such as boating, sailing swimming and fishing. There are two swimming areas owned by the Village of Cooperstown along the East and West shores as well as Glimmerglass State Park, a large swimming and camping area at the north end. Sam Smiths Boat Yard offers boat rentals and is located 2 miles north of the Village of Cooperstown on the west side.
Arnold Lake
Arnold Lake is a 64 acre spring fed lake approximately 5 miles from Cooperstown Dreams Park. This lake has a maximum depth of 60 feet and due to its clarity is ideal for swimming. Boating is allowed, but motor sizes are limited as are the hours of operation of motor boats. Canoes and paddle boats are frequently used on Arnold Lake and as the closest lake to Dreams Park, Arnold Lake is a wonderful spot for family recreation during a trip to Cooperstown.
CANADARAGO LAKE
Canadarago Lake (kan-uh-dah-RAI-go) is the second largest lake in Otsego County with a surface area of 1900 acres. It is 6 miles long and 1 1/2 miles wide, with an average depth of 33 feet. The lake is 3/4 mile south of the village of Richfield Springs at the north end and is bordered on the south end by the hamlet of Schuyler Lake. A rental cottage at the mid point of Canadarago Lake is approximately 14 miles from Cooperstown Dreams Park.
Canadarago Lake is a clean lake, good for swimming, boating and fishing. In recent years it has been heavily stocked with norlunge or tiger muskies. The tiger muskie is a hybrid cross between the northern pike and the muskellunge that can reach 30 pounds. The tiger muskie and other game fish in the lake are a challenge for Canadarago's fishermen. There is a State owned boat launch on the West side of the lake for easy access.
CRUMHORN LAKE
Crumhorn Lake is a pristine, private mountain top lake of approximately 57 acres. The average depth of the lake is 13 feet with a maximum depth of 17 feet. The entire west side of Crumhorn (approximately 600 wooded acres) is owned by the Otschodela Boy Scout Council and is home to its summer camp. On the east side of the lake there are 17 private cottages. Crumhorn is a motorless lake with access limited by its Lake Association. With its Class-AA water, Crumhorn is a perfect lake for swimming and has an abundant amount of small fish for fishing. Canoes, sailboats and rowboats are allowed.
Crumhorn Lake is approximately 3 miles east of the Village of Milford, 6 miles from Cooperstown Dreams Park and 9 miles from the City of Oneonta.
FLY CREEK
The lovely Village of Fly Creek is located 3 miles west of Cooperstown on State Route 28. Fly Creek offers restaurants, a corner store/gas station, the Christmas Barn, and the famous Fly Creek Cider Mill. Guests staying in Fly Creek can use County Route 26 as a short cut to access the Cooperstown Dreams Park in just 7 miles.
Goodyear Lake
Goodyear Lake was formed in 1907 with the construction of a dam on the Susquehanna River. This 370 acre lake has an average depth of 14 feet and is 30 feet at its deepest point. Goodyear is a long, relatively narrow lake that runs along NY State route 28 approximately 10 miles south of Cooperstown Dreams Park and 6 miles north of
the City of Oneonta. Goodyear Lake is ideal for canoeing, kayaking, fishing and swimming.
Canoe and kayak rentals are available for use
on Goodyear Lake.
Hartwick
Hartwick is a small village at the intersection of State Route 205 and County Highway 11, approximately 6 miles from Cooperstown Dreams Park. Hartwick offers a quiet country setting with easy access to Cooperstown Dreams Park, Cooperstown and the City of Oneonta.
MILFORD
The Village of Milford is 12 miles north of the I88 interchange on State Route 28 and 4 miles south of Cooperstown Dreams Park. Accommodations in Milford offer guests a peaceful setting with access to a country inn, a general store, a brewery and a full service restaurant. Milford is also home to the Cooperstown and Charlotte Valley Railroad, which runs between Milford and Cooperstown and stops at Dreams Park on the way.
ONEONTA
The City of Oneonta is located on Interstate Route 88, within close proximity to State Route 28. With its population of 14,000, Oneonta prides itself on having a small town atmosphere. Oneonta's Main Street complements the small town ambiance with its red brick sidewalks and turn of the century style street lamps. Main Street is the heart of the retail shopping industry in the City and offers a wide range of shopping options mostly centered on locally owned and operated specialty shops. Oneonta's South Side features a shopping center, large grocery stores, Wal Mart, Home Depot and numerous restaurants.
Oneonta is home to The National Soccer Hall of Fame, Cooperstown Baseball World, Cooperstown --- (Marty Patton) and is approximately 20 miles (a 30 - 40 minute drive) from Cooperstown Dreams Park.
COOPERSTOWN/ ROUTE 28 CORRIDOR
The Cooperstown/Route 28 Corridor is an 8 mile segment from Cooperstown as its northern boundary to Milford as its southern boundary, with Cooperstown Dreams Park as its mid point. Accommodations along this corridor are the closest to Dreams Park and are also in close proximity to grocery stores, full service and fast food restaurants and the Cooperstown Fun Park.
SPRINGFIELD
Springfield Center is a hamlet situated on Route 80, 1 mile south of US Highway 20 and 11 miles north of Cooperstown. Accommodations in Springfield Center offer easy access to The Glimmerglass Opera, a country gift shop, an antique shop and the Coachman's Restaurant. Springfield Center is also in close proximity to two public golf courses.
